The Divine Attributes of Jesus.
The Divine Attributes of Jesus.
The Eternal Nature of Jesus Christ.
The Eternal Nature of Jesus Christ.
In the continuation of our study on discovering Christ, it is important to examine the claims of deity given to Jesus Christ through a careful study of the Word of God.
Previously we have spent some time looking at the names given unto Jesus Christ, now I want us to examine His attributes.
Previously we have spent some time looking at the names given unto Jesus Christ, now I want us to examine His attributes.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1v1-4.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1v1-4.
There are primarily 5 attributes that prove the divinity of God, and these same attributes are revealed clearly in both Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
They are;
1] Eternity or being eternal.
2] Omnipotence.
3] Omnipresence.
4] Omniscience.
5] Immutability.
Eternity.
There is none like unto the
God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in His
Excellency on the sky. The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath
are the everlasting arms: and He shall thrust out the enemy from before
thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
Deuteronomy 33v26-27
Deuteronomy 33v26-27
Here the word clearly reveals that God is eternal.
How much more shall the
blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without
spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living
God?
Hebrews 9v12.
Hebrews 9v12.
Jesus presented His redemptive blood on the mercy seat through the eternal Spirit, therefore the Holy Spirit is eternal.
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Micah 5v2.
Jesus is eternal, because He is from everlasting to
everlasting, there has never been a time when He never existed, neither
in the eternal past, nor in the eternal future.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1v1.
John 1v1.
- When speaking of in the beginning, we are referring to;
- before there was time.
- before there was substance.
- before there was a foundation.
In its broadest sense it means that in the eternal past there was the Word, and the Word was with God, and existed as God.
In the Greek the meaning of the Word is Logos.
Logos is from ancient Greek and its meaning is that of being a mediator between God and His creation, and in being the personification of God’s wisdom and revealed truth.

The Apostle John in his gospel, written under the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit is revealing that Jesus Christ existed
before the existence of time itself, and that Jesus therefore is from
eternity, and is eternal in nature, and that Jesus is the only mediator
between God and mankind, and He is the true representative of God
Himself.
And the Word was made flesh,
and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the Only
Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1v14.
Jesus as being the Logos, pre-existed in eternity
past, but clothed Himself with flesh, and came into the world as the
full embodiment of the total revelation of God, to reveal the truth of
God to the world.
This tremendous revelation was taught by Jesus Himself to His disciples, we see this in John chapter 14.

If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him.
Philip saith unto Him, Lord, show us the Father, and it suffices us.
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known Me, Philip?
he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou Show us the Father? John 14v7-9.
The clear revelation that we need to understand is everything Jesus wrought in His ministry was the unveiling of the supreme will of God His Father.

The clear revelation that we need to understand is everything Jesus wrought in His ministry was the unveiling of the supreme will of God His Father.
To further emphasize this truth of Jesus being the
personification of God to the whole race of mankind, I would like to
draw your attention to the book of Hebrews, here the writer goes to
great length to make known the clear identity of Jesus Christ, and His
claim of deity.
God, who at sundry times and
in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath
appointed Heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds;
Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Hebrews 1v1-3.
Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Hebrews 1v1-3.
In declaring that Jesus is the express image of
God, it means or conveys to us that Jesus is the outshining of the
Father, He is the totality of God Himself.
Jesus is timeless. There never was a time when He
came into being; there never will be a time when He is not in being. We
cannot say of Jesus, He was. We must always say, "He is."... in Jesus
we see the timeless God, who was the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of
Jacob, who was before time and who will be after time, who always is……..
